Image 4: Salvation
Date: May 2009
Description: An assignment painted in grade 12. It is themed and original.
Inspiration: I wanted to focus on the word “Salvation”. I look around on the internet and found a picture of a man with his arms stretched out, with hills in the background. Immediately I loved it. I researched the meaning of the color blue (blue symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, and truth) and felt a connection to my theme. The anchor (a symbol of hope, and safety) is placed resting on a rock (which symbolizes Christ, the Rock of the Church.) In my original sketches, I had also placed a butterfly (symbolizing transformation into something beautiful. It also symbolizes freedom). However, I wanted my painting to look simple and straight to the point, so I left out the butterfly which seemed to clutter the empty, free, blue space.
